The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares
for those who trust in him.
Nahum 1:7
I want to testify of the truth of this verse. I hope my
readers will take heart as they hear how I have taken refuge in the strength of
God.
My husband and I endured the death of our second little boy
– who had a heart abnormality. We didn’t blame God. It is amazing to me that so many babies are
born with ten toes, ten fingers, and healthy hearts.
We felt the love of God as we recovered from the
disappointment. Eighteen months later we were blessed with a healthy baby girl.
In the same year I experienced the death of my father and my
only brother. During that time we received so many potted plants that I felt as
if I never wanted to see a chrysanthemum again.
We eventually took my brothers’ son and daughter into our
home. Then we had three teenagers and a preteen. Talk about a lifestyle change…
I may write a book about that experience. I think I’ll title it Shock Waves.
My mother was a stroke victim for ten years. She required
much care. As the only child left I had the major responsibility for her care.
She lived the last three years with us.
That was a blessing in disguise. You would understand if you had known
Mother.
My troubles were minor compared to some of yours. Single
moms find themselves in valleys of despair. Some of you deal with wayward
children. Many of today’s families face
dire financial problems. Others have
special needs children. Heath issues don’t discriminate – they invade all ages.
Problems in life go on and on. I am only sharing mine because God was my refuge
in these troubled times.
God is sufficient. Take heart in His Word. Christ told us, “My
grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2
Corinthians 12:9). The psalmist wrote, What time I am afraid, I will
trust in you (Psalm 56:3).
When you are going through trying times, depend on Him. If
you are a Christian you have direct access to God through Jesus Christ. Spend
time with Him in prayer. Read His Word. It’s there for you to soak up comfort
through the words inspired by the Holy Spirit.
If you don’t have a relationship with God, please contact me
and I will share with you the marvelous truth of the gospel of Christ.
Dear Father, I hope my readers feel the love of God through
my testimony. Help them depend on you for help in time of need. You are truly a
refuge from any problem.
