I'm About To Lose Control - And I Don't Like It!

But you are to hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have until now.
Joshua 23:8

If you are like me, lots of things feel out of control these days. The world around us seems to be falling apart, and the future seems uncertain. Is this the first time in history people have felt this way? No. Are we closer to the coming of our Lord? Yes. Closer today than yesterday anyway!

Jesus tells us, At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come (Matthew 24:10-14).

This sounds familiar. Are we close to the end? Who knows? Well – One knows, but He’s not telling! So what do we do in this crazy world? We keep holding on to the Lord just as we have been. We continue to love those who He loves. We love because he first loved us (1 John 4:19). We continually serve others. This is how we know what love is:  Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters (1 John 3:16).

When we love and serve others, we put others before ourselves, which is contrary to  our selfish desires. We are different. This world is not our home, and we should be constantly pointing others to our Savior, by our words and our deeds.

When I consider the world around me, my heart wants to fear, but I can find my peace in Him. I may not know the outcome of tomorrow, but my God knows. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

I may be losing it, but I’m going to hold fast to my Lord. He has overcome!
