Help! I'm Trapped!

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice
and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
  Revelation 3:20

While at a restaurant, I decided to go to the restroom. As I went to leave, the stall door, which had locked easily, was jammed and would not open. I turned the latch many times, jiggled the door, pushed on the door, but it would not open. I was trapped with no one to help!

After a brief time of being held captive, a waitress entered. I called out, “I need help! This door won’t open!” Obviously, she was familiar with the stubborn lock. She banged on the door, and it opened. Then she said, “We need to put a warning sign on that door.” Really? How about fixing the lock?
My predicament in the restroom has a spiritual parallel. Before I came to know Jesus personally, I was trapped-- trapped in disbelief, disobedience (sin) and death (Romans 3:23, 6:23). On my own I had no way of escape.

However, Jesus knew my spiritual predicament, and He came to my rescue. Knowing I could not come to Him, He came to me. He knocked on the door of my heart and called out to me.  He enabled me to recognize His voice, and He gave me faith to believe that He would save me from sin and death. The door to my heart was opened. The door to new, eternal life with God was opened. The door to fellowship with God was opened.

Every person apart from Jesus is trapped in disobedience and death with no way of escape. God, however, made a way of escape. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

So where are you today? Are you trapped in a life without God? Are you longing for someone to set you free from sin and death? Are you longing for new life? Jesus is the answer.

Do you hear it? He is standing at the door of your heart, knocking. He is calling you. Will you open the door and let Him in?
