A Clean Slate

Love does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
1 Corinthians 13:5

Has it started in your city? You know, that time of year when you can barely fight your way through the door at Wal Mart or Target because there are swarms of young mothers and children doing their very best to pick the coolest/cheapest/sturdiest/newest/right school supplies. Have these lists not gotten completely out of control?!!?!

I was a teacher once, so I understand why teachers request the things that they do, but may God have mercy on the bank accounts that support school supplies for three and four children. Yowzas! Pricey!

The only blessing in all of this madness is the newness, the freshness, the clean slate that is sure to accompany those new pencils, notebooks, and backpacks. It's invigorating!

You know, the idea of a "clean slate" comes from the use of a slate board in old grocery stores. As customers came in to purchase goods, the shopkeep would keep a running tab on the board to show each person's debt. As soon as the customer paid up, the debt was erased, and there was no record of it ever existing. A fresh start for next time! A clean slate!

Jesus Christ is the only true fresh start. When we embrace Him, he takes that list of debts against us, and wipes it completely clean, with no record of it.

Dear Ones, so many things could be on my list of debts - deceit, arrogance, judgment, criticism, pride, harshness, worry, sin, sin, sin. You name it, and I'm certain that I'm guilty of it.

But, when Jesus Christ gave his life for me, he wiped my slate clean. He gave me a new start. He gave me another chance. His mercies are new every single morning, and evening, and afternoon.

Jesus, I need Thee, oh, I need Thee; every hour I need Thee.

Do you need a clean slate today? Jesus can make all things new. You can find out how by clicking here.
