Sweetest Names I Know

“I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.”
1 Corinthians 14:15

My husband and I sing in the choir at our church and we both joke that we must be there as “eye candy” since neither of us have strong, good voices. But for us singing is heart worship---you are not distracted, you can focus on the words and sing them to the Lord.

I love lyrics that list the names of the Lord. Singing the names of the Lord brings me great joy. Doing this simple act of worship brightens my outlook, lifts my spirit, and fills my heart with a calm peace. I sing or chant to Him whichever of His names I need Him to be at that time.

The Bible is full of the names of Jesus. These are just a few of the names of Jesus you may be interested in today. Holy One, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Light of the World, Prince of Peace, Emmanuel (God with us), I AM, Bread of Life, Deliverer, Good Shepherd, Mediator, Rock, Savior, Way, Truth, Life, Advocate, Almighty, Comforter, Everlasting, Friend of Sinners, Master, Physician, Redeemer, Refuge, Teacher, and Wonderful Counselor. As you read your Bible mark the many, many other names of Jesus for your future use.

The refrain of Luther Bridges old hymn, "There’s Within My Heart a Melody,” sums it up for me.

                        “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,
                         sweetest name I know,
                         fills my every longing,
keeps me singing as I go.”

But, sometimes our trials and desperations are so overwhelming and the agony so great we cannot even utter, “Jesus, help me!” In those times God has His Holy Spirit help us in our weakness. Romans 8:26 says, In the same way the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

I just love that!  Don’t you?
