"From heav’n He came and sought her to
be His Holy Bride,
With His own blood He bought her and
for her life He died."
You see, at just the right time, when
we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
Romans 5:6
Do
you notice the movement? It is all from God, all of Christ. He planned, initiated,
completed, saved, blessed. These are things the things that only God can do. Our
part in the deal? We were the powerless. We were the ungodly. It
is ours to see our need and to accept the free gift and begin the new life.
Something
has been happening in my little world recently. Something that I could not have
imagined six month’s ago. In people I have known for years, people I have
shared the things of Christ, a drift (sometimes by almost imperceptible
degrees) is taking place.
The definition of love is not that God
loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice for our sins (1 Jn. 4:10). It is that
a God of love wouldn’t send anyone to hell.
We decide what sin is, not based on the
Word of God, but the sinner’s own viewpoint of and comfort with his
transgression.
The Bible is not the Word of God as 2,000
years of church history believed and 2,000 years of martyrs lived and died to
preserve, but a collection of man-made stories which we are free to accept or
discard, as we find them helpful.
We
find God not through the truth of His Word and the power of His Spirit, but by
emptying our mind and meditating on our “inner god,” allowing it to bring us
“inner peace.”
If
you find yourself drifting, have a look at these foundational facts:
Jesus taught about the reality of hell as a
punishment for sin (Matt. 10:28)
Jesus confirmed the Divine inspiration of
the Scriptures (Matt. 4:4, 5:8)
Jesus said that the Holy Spirit guides us
into all truth by reminding us of
Jesus’ words in our inner being. (John 14:25)
Jesus warns against the danger of emptying
the mind to open it to evil
Spirits (Matt.12:43-45)
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday,
today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
That is the most convenient truth of all.
