No Coincidence

I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.
Isaiah 42:8

A few months back I came to an intersection. As I looked to my right, about 100 yards down the road, a truck was spinning out of control and came to a stop just off the road. He apparently had a tire blowout. As I watched, one of his wheels came hurtling towards me, rolling and bouncing all the way. As it got closer, I eased forward a little, and it crossed the road about 15 feet behind my car.

As I pondered what had just happened, I thought about what could have happened if I had driven up seconds later. Have you ever experienced something similar?

Coincidence? Luck? I think we use those words too much. We worship a Sovereign God. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made (John 1:3).

In Acts 12, Peter was in prison. An angel of the Lord appeared, woke Peter, and his chains fell. Although Peter thought this was a vision, he followed the angel out of the prison and down the street. The angel left, then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord sent his angel and rescued me . . . (Acts 12:11).

It even took Peter a while to realize what God had done. Sounds a lot like you and me, huh?

So let’s make sure that we give credit where credit it due. God’s work is evident in our lives every single day. He uses the small, and He uses the big. He prompted someone to send that encouraging note or call at just the right time. That encounter with an old friend you haven’t seen in a while was orchestrated by Him. Maybe you’ve seen Him work a miracle or seen healing in the life of a loved one, or even you! And, He guided that wheel away from my car.

I am reminded that every day holds His wonders. I want to be awake and aware of what He is doing all around me. Don’t you? I don’t want to give God’s Glory to another.

Thank you, Father, that You are sovereign. Help us open our eyes to the amazing things You do in our lives every day.
