Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give
thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures
forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Psalm 100:4-5
Look all around you. Take time to
really see things and people. Notice the details. Make it a point to recognize the little
things that enrich your life each day.
Sit
in your house, and look around you. Name the things you are grateful for. Be
detailed. See the patterns of the things you are surrounded by. Look for things
that you usually just take for granted.
Then
meditate, relaxed, with your eyes closed. Recall all the people that have
positively affected your life. Take your
time, and let the memories of these people warm your heart once more. Play the
movies of your mind of the good and happy and rewarding times you had with
them. See them with the grateful eyes of your heart.
Go
outside, and begin seeing the details of God’s marvelous world around you. Be very observant. See the little things, the things you usually
do not notice. Emulate the eyes of a
small child who sees the absolute and perfect beauty of the flowering of
dandelion weeds in the lawn; the same weeds that annoy us. Let your eyes become
once again the eyes of a child to whom simple things are magnificent.
Then
begin thanking God for each and every little detail that you have noticed or
brought to mind. Don’t rush. Make this thanksgiving an offering to the Lord.
Praise Him for what he has created and for the things with which He has blessed
your life. See the absolute richness He
has created just for you.
Then,
try to get in the habit of doing this as you go about your daily living. Look for the blessings that surround you and
continually give the Lord your thanks. Praise Him for who He is and what He has
done and is doing in your life.
Oh, Lord, help me to not be so busy that I cannot see your handiwork all
around me. Help me see the miracles in the details of my world and help me to
continually offer you my praise and thanksgiving. Amen.
