Jesus
said, “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be
with you forever---the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept Him because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him for He lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come
to you.
John 14:16-18
The “Another” is the Holy
Spirit and is God’s divine Gift to His children who have accepted His Son,
Jesus Christ, as their Savior.
This Divine Holy Spirit is
who woos us to accept Christ as our Savior while we are still unrepentant
sinners. He is the One that causes us to
realize we are sinners in need of a Savior. Isn’t that just amazing love?
He is the One who empowers
and equips us in our Christian life. In
addition to counseling us, sealing our salvation, and indwelling us, He is the One
who gradually cleanses us to become more Christ-like until we meet Jesus in
heaven.
This Counselor is the One
who enlightens our minds to the truth of God’s Word and who Jesus is. Isn’t that just amazing love?
Gift-bearer extraordinaire
is the Holy Spirit. When He comes, He
gives us gift(s) that He, Himself, has selected for each individual. This gift(s) is to be used to build up the Body
of Christ, our fellow believers. In
1 Corinthians 12:7 and 11 we learn, Now to
each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. All these are the work of one and the same
Spirit, and He gives them to each one, just as He determines. He, also, gives us the Fruit of the Spirit listed
in Galatians 5:22, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Then He empowers us to demonstrate these in our life everyday.
If like me, when you have
done something you know is displeasing to God, you cannot sleep, eat, or get away from the
conviction of sin until you ask forgiveness from God and make amends. That is the aggrieved Holy Spirit in you. Isn’t that amazing love?
Ever had a time when your
sorrow, angst, or trial was so great you could not even utter the words, “Help
me Lord?” Romans 8:26 tells us, In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our
weakness. We do not know what we ought
to pray for, but the Spirit, Himself intercedes for us with groans that words
cannot express. Now, isn’t that just
the most amazing love?
This devotional is just an
ant’s footprint of words needed to describe the work, ministry, and purpose of
the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. I encourage you to research the Holy Spirit, but, be prepared to be
overwhelmed by the most amazing love and help you will ever know.
