Which Goal Is Ours, Coach?

So we make it our goal to please Him.
2Corinthians 5:9

Our Sunday morning Bible teacher told us about a game he was coaching for his young daughter’s Little Dribbler’s basketball team. In the middle of the game a little player came up, and jerking on his shirtsleeve asked, “Coach! Coach! Which  goal is ours?”

I ask myself what goal is my aim if I am wearing the uniform of Team Jesus? Are you, also, wearing the Team Jesus uniform and questioning your goals? Have you, like me, been distracted by the sidelines of life events and busyness that cause you to drift away from the game? Have we been not showing up for practices or becoming forgetful of the rules?

Jesus’ game goal is to get as many people, as possible, to spend eternity in heaven with Him. We are to be sharing our faith, love of Him, joy in Him, and giving Christ’s love and aid in life struggles. As His Team players we are to live our lives so others see Jesus in us and want more of Him.

Satan’s worldly team may have better-looking uniforms, more fans, louder cheerleaders, tastier concession tidbits, and flashy promises of shinier trophies. But, God’s Word addresses the future of worthy and unworthy goals. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or stubble, his work will be shown for what it is, because The Day will bring it to light. It will reveal with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up he will suffer loss. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight (1Corinthians 3:12-15,19).

So let’s shake ourselves, get focused, get up, and get back in The Game!! We have a great Coach (the Holy Spirit) and a winning Team!!

Thank You, Lord, that Your Word promises us in 1 Peter 1:8-9, Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
