Armor for Defense

Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
Ephesians 6:11

I don’t like to think of myself as a soldier or warrior. I’m kind of soft-hearted and sensitive. I am non-confrontational, and I don’t like anyone to think badly of me.

Sometimes I take situations to heart, and I take on feelings of defeat. I feel like I can’t do anything about it, so I just try to manage.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10). Jesus came so that I would have life, and have it to the FULL! Not so that I would just get by or manage.

I am no longer willing to settle for defeat. So what do I do now? Put on the armor of God. Let’s consider the first three pieces of armor.

First is the belt of truth (Ephesians 6:14). The gospel is our foundation on which we do not waver. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:11). Do you believe that truth wholeheartedly? AND we have the truth within us. Believers become the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.

Next is the breastplate of righteousness (Ephesians 6:14). We take on the righteousness of God. We are righteous because He is righteous. Not because of anything we do, but because of what he did. Believe it. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Then we have our feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. The gospel brings peace. We must have a readiness to share his story to those who need his peace.

God has provided a defense for us. Our defense relies on Him and believing that He is strong and mighty enough to combat our enemy. Let’s use the tools the Lord has provided for us to be the warriors he created us to be.

Thank you, Father, that you have given us a defense against our enemy. Help us to believe your truth, trust in your righteousness, and be ready to share your peace.

Julie
