Letting Go

What joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!
Psalm 32:1-2

Moving is a good time to get rid of things. That is not hard for me. I learned a long time ago to hold on to all things loosely. Even though we think we don't own a lot, wait until you move. Packing each item in your house can become overwhelming. We all have stuff and too much of it.

There is a freedom that comes from downsizing or giving up things. We hold on to things we don't use and things we really don't have use for. When we have finally donated and thrown away unneeded items, it feels great.

As I thought about that it is in the same way we get rid of guilt from sins. Jesus has provided a way for us to be free of the penalty of sin and most of all the guilt. The word guilt means "the state or feeling of one who has committed an offense." To be guilty means "justly chargeable with wrongdoing." We are no longer guilty. What joy, what peace, what freedom!

Guilt will hold us back, keep us in a state of unhappiness and keep us from being all that Jesus desires for us. His sacrifice has given us freedom in so many ways. We are free from the penalty of sin, free of guilt, and free now to be called children of the Holy God. To be given all that Jesus has to offer is to give us now an inheritance to be part of God's family. We are also counted righteous and blameless. We have a life free from death and secure in eternal life.

As we continue to have a relationship with Jesus, He will continue to use you and me for His service to glorify Him. If we hold on to our guilt we will never feel the peace that only walking with Jesus will give. The world looks for peace and joy in the things of the world and that will never satisfy. We have a peace and a joy that lasts. It does not depend on the circumstances in life. Focusing on Jesus and how much He loves us will motivate us more to obey Him.

Think about getting rid of things, donate some stuff, throw away useless things and begin to let go more and more of the world. It will bless your life.

Thank you, Jesus, for your sacrifice to make me free.

Sharon
