Unless the Lord builds the house, the
builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand
watch in vain.
Psalm 127:1
I've
been watching a lot of building lately. In the summer, my boys spend hours
building master creations with LEGOs. And did you know that Lego really employs
Master Builders?
They design all of the official LEGO set.
LEGO Master Builders also create giant detailed sculptures out of LEGO
bricks for LEGOLAND® Parks and special events all around the world.
We've
had the privilege of seeing some of these displays in person. I'm amazed by the detail. In the LEGO display of Las Vegas, the builder
included an Elvis mini figure!
If you
could see our play area, you would see hundreds of LEGO bricks on a table the
my boys use only for building with LEGOs. It's a jumbled mess -- the pieces of many
torn-apart sets. My boys love taking the pieces from one set and using them for
an entirely different purpose. And I can't argue. That's creativity. (Anyone see The LEGO Movie?!)
As I
think about this, I better understand how God takes the pieces of our lives and
creates a masterpiece.
We all
have different parts to our life. Basic
pieces from childhood. Colorful pieces
from the teen years. Complex pieces come
from our career or parenting years. Some
of your pieces have probably even been "retired." Those are more valuable because they are no
longer made.
It
really doesn't matter what your life pieces look like individually. God is our Master Builder. He takes them all
and fashions us into a His beautiful creation. No piece is wasted. He uses everything for our good.
Lord, I give you all the pieces of my
life. Please use them to make me
beautiful.
