More Than I Can Be

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall
mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and
they shall walk, and not faint.
 Isaiah 40:31 AKJV

Eagles are one of God’s amazing creations! With tireless strength they rule the sky, flying higher and farther than any other bird. They conserve energy by waiting, sometimes days, for the thermal winds that will carry them wherever they want to go, soaring effortlessly! When escaping predators eagles can mount straight up into the sun, having special eyelids for protection. They leave their enemies behind, blinded by the brightness!

Eagles teach their young to fly when they are about three months old. Mama takes her chick to the edge of a high place. Papa circles overhead, watching as the mother nudges her baby over the edge. The helpless chick free-falls, but Papa swoops down just at the right time with his wings spread beneath the chick to carry her back up to the heights. They practice the lesson until the eaglet realizes that by spreading her wings and catching the wind she can raise up into the clouds!

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains,
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas,
I am strong when I am on your shoulders,
You raise me up to more than I can be!
(from the song, YOU RAISE ME UP)

In Exodus 19:4, God expressed to Israel how He took care of them in the desert those forty years. He said, You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. This is the heart of God – to bring us always to Himself!

Father, thank You that when I wait upon You, I make that beautiful exchange. My strength is renewed – I can soar like an eagle – I am more than I can be!
