And
we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed
into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord,
who is
the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18
It all began with conviction,
the conviction that there was something far greater than yourself. That
conviction spun the confusion of your birth into this unruly world, into the silken
sanctity of rebirth in Christ. Your caterpillar self no longer lived. You
breathed the sigh of conversion. But you, like the transformed caterpillar,
were not supposed to stay within your chrysalis.
Watch the new creature struggle
to emerge. Its wings, all small and wet like soggy paper, need to expand, to
dry, to work those flight muscles before it is safe to fly. You cannot
intervene; it is up to the butterfly. Blood is pumped from its abdomen through
the wing veins. Gravity aids in the expansion process. Two hours is all it
takes, but what a critical two hours to establish the glory of the butterfly.
As for you, once you died to
self and were born again, the blood of Christ coursed freely through your veins
endowing you with the spiritual DNA of God. You were filled with the glory of
the Lord, ready to spread your wings. And His Spirit remains within you to
direct your flight plan.
I’ve been watching my eleven-year-old
grandson Cade, who recently gave his life to Jesus. Once he figured it out in
his mind, he couldn’t resist the call. He is a new person. But it will take all
his years to be transformed into the likeness of the Lord. Don’t ever lose
sight of your destiny. Once called, once you love Christ, you are to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus
(Romans 8:29).
Gradually the Spirit, in you,
completes the transformation. Gradually the glory of God is reflected in you.
It’s not about you. Soli Deo Gloria: to God alone be the glory!
As there are 17500 species of
butterflies of all colors of the rainbow, so too there are a myriad of
metamorphosed Christians of all ilks in all places of God’s world. You simply
need to stay tuned to the Spirit to portray God’s glory wherever you are.
