The Senior Ring Saga

In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
Luke 15:10

Ever since my husband and I got married I have heard stories about how he lost his High School Senior ring. He might have left it in a bathroom somewhere. He might have lost it at a girlfriend’s house. Who knew?

Imagine my surprise when after several years of marriage, the phone rang and the person started asking me questions about my husband. I answered yes to every inquiry thinking that they were probably going to tell me about some special event he might want to attend.

I could not believe it when the next thing I heard was that someone had found the missing senior ring and wanted to return it. He had graduated from High School some 30 years before and lost that ring about the same time.

It just so happened that my husband’s birthday was coming up. The timing of the ring’s arrival in the mail could not have worked out better. What a joyful celebration we had as he unwrapped a cherished item he thought lost forever.

Afterwards, I could not help but recall the stories I had read in the Bible about the lost sheep, the lost coin, the lost son. Each story ended with finding that which had been lost and then the pure joy which came afterward.

What a great picture of our God, the redeemer. He redeems us in our lost condition. He claims us as His own. As we repent of our sins and accept Him as our Savior, He rejoices. The lost has been found.

Let the celebration begin!

God, thank you for earnestly seeking me when I was lost. Thank you for rejoicing when I was found.
