Uncovered Trees

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:12-13

As I look out my windows it is evident that we are in the midst of winter. Most trees stand leafless. Their green covering is gone, and the entire landscape is changed. I can now see my neighbor’s house, which was previously hidden in the full bloom of summer.

I am reminded of the things in my life I try to hide from others, even from the Lord. I put on a happy face and try to appear that I have it all together. The truth is that God sees straight to my heart. He knows my worries, fears, and doubts. The leaves in which I am trying to hide are nonexistent! Even when we doubt or question God, he appreciates our truthfulness with Him.

God can also use your struggles to minister to others. When you get real with a friend and discuss how God is moving in your life, God is glorified. Letting down your guard and being open with someone at the appropriate time can encourage you both. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. ”Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Just as the psalmist reminds us, would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart? (Psalms 43)

I am actually comforted by the fact that the Lord knows my heart. I don’t have to hide or pretend with Him. My branches are bare, and he can see the real me, regardless of the season. During this Christmas season be real and rest in the truth that God loved you enough to send His only Son to be born as a baby in order to become our Savior.

Thank you, Father, that you know my heart and love me regardless.
