Let Others See Jesus in Me

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16

My grandson and I stopped at the grocery store to get the ingredients for his favorite food, spaghetti. As we started down an aisle, I heard someone calling to me from behind. A stranger approached my buggy. She told me that she needed help buying groceries for her family. She offered to let me call someone and verify her story. God’s Spirit prompted me to help her. The checker scanned her groceries, and I charged the bill to my credit card. The stranger thanked me for my help and offered to give me her personal contact information. I replied, “If you truly have a need, then God is going to bless this.”

Our Scripture tells us that we are to let our light shine brightly in the world so that others can see the Father. But do we look different than others in the world? The world we live in is dark with sin, and as Christians we need to shine brightly.

Daily we hear and read of shootings, drugs, and crime. The family that God designed does not exist anymore. People need the Lord, and they need hope. As God’s children we can give that hope to them if we live as a shining example of Christ through our words and actions. We should desire to flood the world with His Light!

Since that encounter at the grocery store, I have thought about the light I cast as I meet others daily. Do I have unconfessed sin that is causing my light not to shine its brightest for Him? Have I grown complacent in my walk with the Lord so that my light is dim? Does my light flicker off and on? Do I serve wholeheartedly then slack off? Or am I a bright and shining beacon of Christ’s love? That is the light we should desire to be. I must stay in fellowship with Christ and sensitive to His leading if I am going to be a beacon in this dark world.

The words to the song, Let Others See Jesus in You, ring in my head as I think about my light in this world.

Let others see Jesus in you, Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true, Let others see Jesus in you.

Heavenly Father, my desire is to be a beacon to others. Reveal areas where I am dim and dirty so that I may confess my sin. I want others to see Jesus in me.
