Since, then, you have been raised with Christ…
Set your minds on things above…
Colossians
3:1-2
One
of the rides at Disney World that thrilled my grand daughter was “It’s a Small
World.” We rode it three times, and each time, the song was stuck in my mind
for the rest of the day. It’s a small
world after all. It’s a small world after all…It’s a small, small world. A
man who works at the ride said that the song never leaves his mind. During the
day, in the middle of the night, the song plays over and over.
What
is playing over and over in your mind? Are you hearing the harsh words of a
parent criticizing you, saying you will never amount to anything? Are you weighed
down by a traumatic experience from your past that you cannot forget? Perhaps
the words going through your mind resemble the lyrics of the song popular 40
years ago, “You’re No Good.”
Condemning
or negative thoughts can become a habit. That habit can then become a
stronghold. You and I do not have the power or ability to demolish the
stronghold of wrong thinking. God alone can do so through His powerful Holy Spirit
and the powerful weapon of His Word.
Jesus
said, Then you will know the truth, and
the truth will set you free (John 8:32). Jesus, the Truth, sets us free
from the bondage of sin and sinful thoughts. The Word of God, which is truth,
also sets us free. Believing and acting upon the truths and promises of God
increasingly destroys negative, false strongholds in our minds.
So
what is playing through your mind? Is it that which tears down and hinders, or
is it God’s truth? When condemning thoughts surface, will you ask God to give
you His truth to dwell upon instead? Memorize it! Cling to it, for God’s truth has
the power to transform!
Lord, use Your powerful
Word and Spirit to demolish strongholds of wrong thinking. Help me set my mind
on things above!
