He Hears Me

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
1 John 5:14

My mother used to say, “Troubles within and troubles with-out“ when she was burdened with the difficulties of her own life (troubles within) and when the hurts of those she loved grieved her too (troubles with-out). I am feeling exactly that right now. Burdens in my life have been heavy and unrelenting while my sorrow for ones that I love has been overwhelming too. Life is just hard.
1 John 5:14 brought me much comfort this week as I meditated on the fact that the High and Holy One, the Lord of Hosts, the Creator of the universe and of me…… hears. Isn’t that amazing? In all the babble and noise and crying out in this world….He hears my whispered prayer, my unutterable desire, my heart-cry.
Psalm 10:17 has been a balm to my spirit: You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry. Isn’t that just like a father….to delight to hear his children’s heart and to encourage and uplift and answer?
In all honesty, there are many moments and even seasons in my life when I don’t know what to do with the following verse…that we have what we ask. There have been times when I’ve flung that verse back at God and said, “Really?????” There have been others when I’ve begged Him to open my eyes to see His perfect will fulfilled through my prayers in my life. But mostly, I just live in faith that what He says is true…whether or not I grasp it, whether or not I perceive it, whether or not I understand it. He is true. His Word is true. He is good.
So this week, I am resting in the amazing truth that He hears the cries of my heart. And His answer to those cries is for my good and His will….whatever they are, whatever they look like.

Lord: I will trust you today.
