They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
John 4:42
Choice words were thrown. Anger was in the January air.
And out walks the young wife, a brand new Christian with a childlike faith.
“I’ll pray and God can start the car.”
Laughter and a bit of mockery. Then, “If you want to pray, go ahead.”
As she slid into the cold vinyl seat, she prayed, “God, show my husband that You’re real and that You care about him.”
She turned the key and the engine roared to life. As she exited the car, he said, “If God can start the car, so can I.” He got in and shut it off.
He turned the keys. Pumped the brakes. Turned. Huffed. Puffed.
Then this. “If you’d like to pray again, go ahead.”
Later that morning, with her boss attending the big meeting, that man’s secretary called the young wife. She said her boss had told everyone in the office about how God had started his car, not once, but twice.
When later asked, the wife said she had never done anything like this before or since. She now regards this miracle from over forty years ago as the point where God began the slow and steady process of revealing Himself to her husband, who is a strong believer now.
You never know what God will use to turn a heart to Him. Who are you praying for today?
Lord, just as You can turn a dead car back to life, You can bring a dead person to eternal life. Please reveal Yourself to ____________ today. Amen.
