Whose Message Gets Your Attention?

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
John 10:27

"Please be quiet," my youngest son pleaded with his brother. "I just want to hear mom."

Heart-warming, right? My child actually wants to hear what I have to say!

In this case, the older one was repeating my instruction. However, the youngest couldn't tell if my instruction was the same as the brother's.

Therefore, he asked his brother to keep quiet, so he could hear my message without any distraction.

I think that's a great picture of what we should do.

In today's world, we hear more messages than ever. Facebook. Instagram. Twitter. Snapchat. Podcasts. Email. Voicemail. Texts. Phone alerts. The list is never-ending.

And frankly, I see Christians disagree more than ever.

Is the truth getting harder to discern?

Maybe, especially if we let the world's noise take over. The more we listen to the other messages, the more they make sense.

My son gave me a great reminder to step away from the noise and chaos of our culture to hear what the Father says. We can only do that by spending quiet time along reading God's word and praying that we can hear His message.

How much time do you spend in God's Word versus media? How much time do you set aside to hear God speak?

Lord,

Please help me to set aside time to hear Your voice. Help me to see truth instead of just the loudest message.

In Jesus Name,

Amen

Stacy
