Living Water

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
John 4:13-14

As I looked out my window, I saw a storm cloud moving in. Within minutes rain began to fall. It’s been dry around here. We will take any amount of rain we can get! Thank you, Lord!
I thought about the rain as it fell. It nourishes the grass and plants. Even after a short shower, the world looks a little greener. I can water my yard, and it does survive - even stays green. But when the Lord does my watering? Wow, what a difference. I tried to do a little reading about this phenomenon. There are plenty of explanations about the nitrogen, a natural fertilizer present only in rainwater, and specifically during a thunderstorm.
I have another explanation. God’s ways are always best. The world, us included, does it’s best to fill in the God-shaped gap. The world has counterfeits for everything. We might even fall into believing that what we do is just as good. Somehow, the counterfeit, or copy, can never measure up to the Original.
Sometimes the answers found in the world sound pretty good. But if they do not line up with the Word, they are not truth. Some choose to believe that everyone is going to heaven, and there is no hell. Sounds good, right? But we are deceived if we believe that. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ (Colossians 2:8).
In another way, all the wonderful things we have in this Earth are just shadows of the future Glory. Imagine the vastness of the ocean, the majesty of the mountains, and all the beauty in God’s Creation. How much better will our eternity be than our present? Incomprehensible. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ (Colossians 2:17).
Thank You, God, that You are Reality, You are Truth, and You are the Living Water that quenches my thirsty soul.
