Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the
desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4
Dear Rachel,
Some misguided people have a distorted view of God Almighty.
They see Him as a bearded judge in the sky wielding a gavel as He waits for us
to slip up. How wrong they are.
God is your Heavenly Father. The Message translates Jesus’
words of Matthew 10:29-31: “’What’s the price of a pet canary? Some loose
change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays
even greater attention to you, down to the last detail__even numbering the
hairs on your head!’” He wants to be in details of your life wherever you go.
He has plans for you. “For I know
the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to
harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11. The palmist
tells us, “All the days ordained for us were written in His book before one of
them came to be” Psalm 139: 16.
He will be there for you at college. Peter writes, “Cast all
your anxiety on him because he cares for you” 1 Peter 5:7. God knows when you
hurt and He knows your every anxiety. He cares when you hurt. He rejoices when
you are happy. He’s studying with you. He’s taking tests with you. He’s with
you as you make friends and enter into activities at school.
Jesus was a social person. He
enjoyed being with friends. He fished with his fishing buddies. He ate in the
homes of those he knew. He walked the dusty roads sharing stories and thoughts
with others. God’s Son liked to have a good time. Don’t you think that God
wants you to have a good time at college? Certainly He does.
Your heavenly Father will be with
you from your registration to your graduation. Take time each day to talk to
Him. He wants to be your best friend on campus. He wants you to enjoy your time
in college.
So, my granddaughter, have fun at
college. Smile and know God loves you. He will be with you and will watch over
you. The following verse will be the secret to having fun as a Christian
college student: “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these
things will be given to you as well” Matthew 6:33.
Love,
Gram
