Pearls of Wisdom from Philippians 4: Garbage In -- Garbage Out


Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.
Philippians 4:8

The Bible is the Christian’s roadmap. Philippians 4:8 is a yardstick for measuring what we think about.

Jerry and I watched a special on PBS entitled, Pornography in America. We felt as if we needed to shower after watching this documentary. Just being exposed to so much filth made us feel dirty.

Pornography is a billion-dollar industry in America. I almost feel God’s tears as He looks down on the world He created and the people He created in His own image.

Christians should be disturbed by this growing fungus which advertises itself as adult entertainment. The internet and cell phones have added access to more smut. We must guard our thoughts and the thoughts of our children by keeping this so-called entertainment out of our homes and minds.

Are you aware of what your children watch on TV and log onto on the internet? Are you aware of the subject matter and rating when you send your teen off to the movies?

The Holy Spirit inspired Paul to list the things God wants us to think about. They are in today’s verse. I am certain that pornography fits none of these adjectives.

God allowed TV, the computer, and cell phones to be invented for healthy pleasure and the good of man. Isn’t it a shame that inventions that bring us so much entertainment and knowledge can also be used by Satan.

He is our enemy who prowls around like a roaring lion. He uses the media to spread his garbage. My radio hero, The Shadow would have said, “He clouds the minds of men.”

Use today’s verse as a yardstick for your thoughts and the input into your mind through your talk, reading, TV, movies, and the internet.

Dear Father, Thank You for allowing me to live in a time full of wonderful inventions.
                        Give us the willpower to devour good things and turn our backs on evil.
