Live a life filled
with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as
a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
Ephesians 5:2
I love the aroma of candles, things baking in the oven and
anything else that pleases the senses. In this passage notice Jesus’ sacrifice
for us was a pleasing aroma to God. That should motivate us to do more
sacrificing in our lives. It seems when we are asked to sacrifice we try to
change things.
Jesus freely offered His life. That was a demonstration of
His love for us so we could become a child of God. It is quite an offer! We
know when we offer something of ourselves it makes us feel blessed and we are
pleased when we see someone who benefits by our actions. Why then are we so
reluctant to do it?
It takes effort, it takes giving up time, talents, and most
of all there is a cost we sometimes are not willing to pay. The cost will
always be great if whatever you do is going to bring a blessing to someone.
Love should be the motivation for whatever we do. To give a life is the
greatest gift of love, and Jesus did it voluntarily.
We are so used to praise or some kind of payment that when
we do something it takes away from the blessing we receive. It is always most
fulfilling when we do things no one but our Savior knows about.
Take a lesson from our Lord the next time a need is presented.
Offer yourself to be a sweet smelling
aroma to God. Do it for His glory and we will be rewarded someday.
Thank you Jesus for
your offering of yourself for me.
