I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33
Several years ago my family
rafted down the Snake River in Wyoming. Melting snow from the previous winter’s
record snowfall resulted in a raging river. Our journey down the river was
thrilling, and at times, terrifying.
During the roughest part of
our adventure, large waves engulfed our raft. I would barely catch my breath
from one wave when another would plunge down on top of me. I remember my prayer
vividly: Lord, get me off of this river,
and I promise I will never do this again. He did, and I won’t!
Sometimes life is like that
river trip. Wave after wave of difficulty engulfs you, so that you feel you are
going under. You become anxious, fearful and even overwhelmed. You cry out to
God for deliverance.
Recently my family has
experienced waves of difficulty. The most recent difficulty seems impossible to
solve from my perspective. My husband and I have discussed every possible solution,
but there seems to be no good answer. I have prayed for wisdom and direction,
but at this time, God has not revealed my next step.
More than likely, you have
been in this same situation, possibly numerous times. I have learned from past
mistakes to wait for God’s direction before making a move. When I move forward
with my solution, inevitably I mess things up. I get in the way of God’s best
for me and others.
So what am I to do? Wait!
Wait, until His direction is clear. However, I don’t wait with inactivity.
While I wait, I praise God for His faithfulness and abundant sufficiency. I
pray in faith for His wisdom and direction. I continue to move in the direction
He has already led me, anticipating His direction in the unknown.
Are you bombarded by trials
today? Will you pursue your own solutions or will you wait patiently for His
direction? As you wait, will you trust
His faithfulness and sufficiency?
Lord, in the midst of trials, I praise You for Your
faithfulness. I ask for Your wisdom and guidance. Help me wait patiently until
Your direction is clear.
