Delight
thyself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4
How do we delight ourselves
in the Lord? In this Psalm, David uses “delight” as a verb. Action is required.
It’s been said that suffering is inevitable; misery is a choice. Are we
choosing to delight in Him or just choosing to be miserable?
To delight in someone or
something requires action. We can only delight in a person when we know them
well. Picture a young child running into the arms of a parent. That’s delight.
Like the beautiful song, “Run to Jesus”
that’s delight. That’s joy. Are you running to Him?
How well do you know God?
Do you delight yourself in Him? Like our
action word from Monday’s writing, we have to Come to Him, spend time with Him.
The Message Bible in Contemporary Language puts it this way: Keep company with God, get in on the best.
Again, it’s a choice, but
look at the reward! He will give you the desires of your heart, even if you
can’t identify what your desires may be. I can’t either, but when I spend time
with Him, come to Him, He is faithful.
Ready? Make that choice.
Delight yourself in our God. Get ready for His blessings just for you.
Heavenly Father, teach more about delighting in You; about joy in You.
Thank You for Your faithfulness to us.
