She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to
come.
Proverbs 31:25
“Mrs.___, have you fallen lately?” Young
people have yet to encounter that question. My husband and I have. We laugh
when we share the experience because as a couple we average about three or four
falls a year. We fall off ladders, in flower beds, down stairs, and sometimes
for no reason. Welcome to the world of seniors.
My friend, Wayne Shay,
reminded me of a time many years ago when discussed the fact that one day we
would be old. Last week he said, “Jan, that day is here.” How right he is.
It takes bravery to walk
the senior pathway. Maybe you are still young. However, you have parents,
grandparents and friends beyond sixty-five. In some way we all deal with senior
citizens. Be patient with us. You will
be there someday.
I am trying to be brave
about my plight. I exercise, get plenty of sleep, and eat too much. Oops! That
last one is not a positive is it?
I strive to stay active. I
love to read from my E book. Games are a big part of my recreational life. I
play bridge and mah-jongg. I also work crossword and sudoku puzzles. I read
devotionals and study and memorize scripture. I try to keep up with current
events through the paper, TV, and the Internet. Still the clock is ticking.
One of my doctors, Dr. Tem
Pas, referred to a problem by saying, “That happens as we collect birthdays.”
What a nice way to put it! She may be twenty five.
Well, I have collected
seventy- five and plan to add to the collection. That is up to God.
So, if you are a senior,
take heart and stay active. Memorize the following scripture. It must be
important because we find it in two places in God’s Word. It is God who arms
me with strength and keeps my way secure. 2 Samuel 22:33 and Psalm
18:32.
Dear
Father, Thank You for life. Thank You for walking with me these many years. Thank
You for sending your Son, Jesus, to die for my sins. Help me grow old with dignity. Help
me draw strength from You, my Father.
