‘Before I formed you in
the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart’
Jeremiah
1:5
The weather where I live in
East Texas can change quickly. Sometimes the changes occur before we are ready
for them. That happened to a man named Casey Wagner while he was at an off-road
racing competition near Dallas.
When a thunderstorm suddenly
blew in, Casey ran for shelter under a nearby tree. Bad decision. Lightning
struck the tree- and Casey. He fell to the ground, and immediately a second
strike hit him.
Amazingly, Casey survived the
double strike and only spent 18 hours in the hospital. After his release, he
said in an interview he believes the reason he’s alive today is because God
still has a purpose for him. Wise man!
God is all about purpose.
Generally speaking, His purpose is to redeem and restore humanity. When our
redemption is accomplished, God has a unique purpose designed for each of us
individually. Finding His purpose gives meaning to our lives.
Before I knew Christ, I
recall wondering Is this all there is to life? Everything I expected to
be satisfying fell disappointingly short. Then I became a Christian and learned
about God’s intentions for me.
The Lord said in Jeremiah
1:5, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set
you apart.’ Jeremiah’s life was no accident, and God had plans for
him. He has plans for you and for me
that are better than our own, plans that bring fulfillment and contentment.
Father, thank You for
Your unique purpose for each of our lives.
