We are therefore ambassadors, as though
God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be
reconciled to God.
2 Corinthians 5:20
Did you ever think of
yourself as an ambassador? If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you are His
ambassador. Paul reminds us of this in our passage for today.
Ambassadors represent a king
or a nation and are chosen to communicate on behalf of that king or nation.
Christians are representatives of Jesus Christ, King of Kings, appointed to
communicate on His behalf.
Think about the role of
ambassadors. First, they are chosen. Christ chose His believers to represent
Him on this earth. Our aim should be to please Christ and to be faithful to the
tasks He gives us.
Ambassadors must be citizens
of the nation they represent. Believers are citizens of the Kingdom of God. We
look forward to a home in Heaven. Paul reminds us of this in his letter to the
Philippians: But our citizenship is in
heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:20).
As God’s messengers we are
driven by Christ’s love for the world He came to save. We are ambassadors with
a message of reconciliation. God has made a way for sinful people to become His
friends instead of His enemies. Our friends, families, neighbors need to know
that God provides a pathway to peace, even in our rebellious world.
You may be saying, “I just
can’t be God’s messenger. I don’t know what to say, and people may laugh at
me.” We are not alone in this task. Jesus promises the power of the Holy Spirit
to carry out this mission. We must be ready to go across the street and across
the world.
Today’s challenge: BE GOD’S
MESSENGER.
