“For
I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and
not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to
me, and I will listen to you. You will
seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:11-13
My husband and I are in the
midst of making some major changes in our lives. I retired two years ago, and
he is approaching retirement. We are trying to make some future plans. We have
our home on the market. We are praying and trusting God to give us direction
and clarity as we move forward in preparing for our future. Are you searching
for God’s plan today?
It is easy when thinking
about God’s plan for our lives to have the attitude, “it’s all about me.” We
can also mistakenly think that God’s plan is always going to be a “feel good”
plan with the intent to make us happy. But the message in these verses is
radically different.
These verses were written to
a group of people who were in captivity. They were in exile from their
homeland. They were not where they expected to be. In fact, they would remain
in captivity for 70 years. That is a long time to wait on the Lord. But God
wanted them to know that He had not forgotten them, and He still had a plan for
their lives, so He gave them assurance of His plans in these verses.
Today in the midst of the
difficulties and decisions of our lives, God wants us to know He has a plan. He
also wants us to submit to His plan because He desires to bless us and those around
us. His plan for us today is still the same as it was to his children in
captivity long ago. Call – Pray – Seek –
Find.
I love the assurance found
in the chorus written by Don Moen, God
Will Make a Way.
God will make a way where there seems
to be no way.
He works in ways we cannot see, He will
make a way for me.
He will be my guide, Hold me closely to
His side.
With love and strength for each new day,
He will make a way.
He will make a way.
Heavenly Father, help me claim the promises of your
Word in times of decision and difficulty. You will make a way. Help me to seek You with all my heart.
