Sparklelate

The LORD their God will save them on that day as the flock of his people. They will sparkle in his land like jewels in a crown.
Zechariah 9:16

My sister was a hugger. If she ever got close to you, you were going to get a hug. I don’t mean just a feather hug; she hugged like a Sumo wrestler. She wasn’t going to let go until she had finished her hug.

With her many challenges: physical, mental, and emotional, she was definitely a people person. What often attracted her to a person was something that they had on that sparkled or glittered. She could spot a beautiful piece of jewelry across a room, and would make a bee-line to take a close look. If the owner offered, yes, she would definitely like to try it on.

Bling, we call it now, catches our eye. Who will forget the opening ceremony of the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi? The five Olympic rings were to come down with their sparkling glitter. During rehearsal that happened perfectly. But in the actual ceremony, the fifth ring didn’t come down and open. It just hung there, a closed ring beside four beautiful sparkly rings.

A few years ago, I accompanied a children’s choir. The director was terrific, tuned into motivation for children. A favorite saying of his was “sparklelate”. You know what he meant and so did the children. They responded with bright shiny eyes gleaming with joy as they sang their songs about Jesus.

Do you sparklelate? Is there something about you that draws people to you? Does the joy of Jesus in your heart shine through your eyes?

Remember that your heavenly Father is the King and you are His child. Put your tiara on and sparklelate like the princess that you are.
