Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord
comes escape from death.
Psalm 68:20
Today, we’re looking at verses two and three of O Holy Night.
I guess I never paid attention before. But catch this.
Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
O’er the world a star is sweetly gleaming.
Now come the wisemen from out of the Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friend.
He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Now the third verse.
Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother.
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.
Let all within us praise His holy name.
This is why we celebrate Christmas. Jesus, God of Heaven, came to earth as a baby to save us from our weaknesses and stop all oppression.
Now maybe all oppression hasn’t ceased yet. But there’s a coming a day when it will. And we celebrate the birthday of the One who will stop all oppression! Think about it. Celebrate it. That’s reason to feast, give gifts and be joyful.
So for the season, take time to celebrate the future. Jesus is coming again!
