Joyful Reunions

“...you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
1 Peter 1:8b – 9

My favorite part about teaching at a Christian school is getting to worship with 200 or more elementary children every Wednesday. One Wednesday after the chapel on our campus, I had the privilege of going to the Upper Campus for their chapel service.

At their chapel not only do the students sit by grade in a row, but also a center aisle divides the boys from the girls. I noticed some of the 6th grade boys, former students of mine, talking and looking back at me. I waved and decided to go say hello. We chatted for a bit and I then I headed down the center aisle to my seat. Of course, the 6th grade girls who had been students of mine the year before wanted to talk to me too. After several hugs and high fives, I once again starting heading back to my seat.

I then realized that I had taught on the Lower Campus long enough to have former students in 6th grade through 11th grade on this campus. As I went, I kept hearing my name coming from different sides of the aisle. As I passed each grades’ row, more and more students started trying to get my attention. I have to admit that I was smiling from ear to ear by the time I got back to my spot.

Thinking back on that day, I came to the realization that heaven will be much like that.  Old friends and family will greet us upon our arrival; hugs, handshakes, and high fives for all.

I cannot even imagine nor can my mere human words describe the greeting from our Heavenly Father and Lord face to face. What a glorious day it will be for all eternity!

God, thank you for loving us enough to give your Son to die for us so that we can live with you in your heavenly home for eternity.
