The Cross

The message of the cross is foolish to those that are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18

Sometimes we take the cross for granted. We, as believers, have heard the message so often we become used to it. As we look at this passage we see the cross is the power of God. The word power means the ability to act or produce an effect; possession of control, authority, or influence over others; physical might. That is how important it is for us to see the power of what Jesus did for us on the cross. The cross is just a symbol, but God used it to bring salvation to those of us who receive it.

It amazes me that God used something so simple, yet made it so powerful it would change the lives of many. I’m sure He could have used something made of gold, silver, or jewels, yet He chose to use a piece of wood and nails. Items that cost a very small amount.

That is so much like our God. He takes the insignificant things of the world and makes them something beautiful and outstanding. Jesus came in the form of a simple being, yet was and is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

An acrostic that was given to me for the cross is: Christ Resurrection Offers Salvation and Sanctification. Let me explain. Only Jesus as our resurrected Lord gives salvation to all that receive and then He begins to transform our lives to be like Him.

Wow. The power of that piece of wood and those few nails. They hung our precious Lord to a place of suffering only to give all of us a way to be saved.  Remember, the next time you think about the cross, don’t focus on the symbol, but remember Jesus hanging there for you and me. If you wear a cross please wear it with integrity and be a good witness to the power of God!

Thank you Jesus for the sacrifice you made.
