For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged
sword…it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews
4:12
That blue Bible – that
gorgeous blue Bible – made of leather with silver edged pages. It was
absolutely beautiful! I fell in love with it at first sight.
We found each other at a
gift shop where I worked during one Christmas break. You can bet that as soon
as we received our Christmas bonus combined with the store discount, I went
straight for that Bible. I loved it.
I proudly took that Bible
back to college with me. I would look at it in awe of its immense beauty.
I could not wait to take
that Bible to church and one rainy Sunday I did just that, or so I thought.
Some friends rode to church with me that day. When we got there I could not
find that Bible anywhere. I assumed incorrectly that I had left it in my dorm room.
About a week later I got a
phone call that my Bible had been found at church. It amazed me that the caller
did not even mention how lovely it was. How could she have missed the perfect
shade of blue, the ostrich leather, my name in silver on the front?
Well, my name on the front
did let her know the Bible belonged to me, but that was about the only thing
reminiscent of the beautiful Bible I had purchased. For that Bible had been
found in a water puddle right beside where I had parked. I did not realize it
had fallen out because it fell out on the passenger side. Someone must have
picked it up after we went inside.
Looking at that wrinkled
swollen mess made me sick. Then I
realized – the outward appearance of a Bible does not make it important. It’s the
living Word of God on the inside that changes lives and hearts!
Wow! Thank you, God for your
living breathing Word.
