Until we all reach unity in the
faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to
the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Ephesians 4:13
My mother is a huge fan of Dancing with the Stars. I have watched a few episodes. On the show, several contestants are paired
with professional dancers who teach them various dance moves. At the end of the week they perform before
judges and receive ratings. I was
watching the next to the last episode of the season, with only four pairs
remaining. Each duo performed beautiful,
breathtaking moves, dancing together in flawless harmony. All four couples received perfect 10 ratings
from all four judges. I thought, Jesus, I want to dance with You like that!
Then I saw the contestants in practice. They were tripping over their feet; they were
out of step with the professionals; they even came crashing to the floor, often
bringing their partners down with them. One actually kicked a tooth out of her partner’s mouth!
There is hope for me yet! Our Christian walk often looks similar. As we try to be more Christ-like, we end up stumbling and sometimes
falling, despite our best efforts. Jesus
doesn’t look at us with contempt. He is
a patient Teacher. With love, He reaches
His hand out to us and says, “Let’s try that again.”
He will continue leading us “until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son
of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of
Christ (Ephesians 4:13). I want the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. What could be better?
I am encouraged that one day, I will perform a perfect
dance, moving in complete harmony with my precious Savior.
A line from the song “Could I Have This Dance” by Anne
Murray sums up my relationship Jesus.
As we moved together, I knew forever
You’re all I’ll ever need.
Lord, instruct us in
this amazing dance of life as we follow your lead.
