“Do
unto others as you would have them do to you”
Luke 6:31
Some cynically deliberately
misquote Luke 6:31 to say, “Do unto others before they do it to
you.” Which is not what Jesus said at
all.
Studies have shown repeatedly
that hurt people, hurt people, who then hurt people, who in turn hurt people on
and on.
I am guilty of this—when I
have been hurt, I lash out at someone else. Do you?
How can we stop this cycle
of hurt and pain? Can we stop it? Jesus’ simple one sentence “Golden Rule” is
the remedy.
“Do unto others as you would have them do to you.” That may seem
trite and simplistic, but when lived out, it is world changing.
Do you have a cycle of
abuse, pain, anger, harshness, bitterness, unforgiveness, or rejection
beginning or ongoing in your life? We
can do something about it. Let it stop
with us. Who do we need to forgive or
ask to forgive us?
Bitterness in our lives is
said to be like drinking the poison ourselves and expecting someone else to die.
We can become the person we
want to be by asking Jesus to help us live out the Golden Rule and stop the
Hurt Cycle. He wants to help us.
Thank You, Lord, that where I am weak, You are
strong. Help me live out Your Golden
Rule in my life. Starting now!
