Mercy’s Release

He redeems your life from destruction, and crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies.
Psalm 103:4 NKJV

 Who doesn’t need mercy?

When I was a high school junior, coming home from a school event one night, my car suddenly died in the middle of the road, a busy highway with cars buzzing all around me, honking for me to get out of the way. (road rage!)

Black smoke billowed up from the hood of my car and I was stranded. I felt guilty that it was somehow my fault, and scared that I would be the cause of an accident pile-up!

Two young men came running over to my car, pushed it to the side of the road, risking their lives to do it. I was so grateful for their mercy – that they didn’t honk like the others and wonder what the “silly girl” was doing in the middle of the highway!

Mercy is that tenderness of heart that overlooks an offense – a mistake. David said in Psalm 103:4 that God redeems my life from destruction, and crowns me with lovingkindness and tender mercies.

Tenderness is concern for another’s good. A tender person cares for anyone in distress.
And this is God!

Because of His tender mercy toward our offenses and failures, His Son, Jesus, wore the bloody crown of thorns and was nailed to the cross. His blood bought my forgiveness, peace and healing. Every time I read these words they make me new! The story is never old!

The enemy will whisper, “Look what you did! You are guilty and unworthy! Shame on you!” No, the guilt and shame was placed on Jesus. Tell the whisperer, “The debt has been paid in full! You have nothing to say – look at the Cross!”

Thank you Father for Your great mercy that releases me and sets me free!

Martha
