Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a
voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
Isaiah
30:21
Many times during an
extremely wet spring, we saw a commercial on TV featuring the saying, “turn around, don’t drown.” Instead of
going through what might look like a puddle, we were instructed to turn around
because it might turn out to be much deeper than we thought.
Often times in life we get
in over our head. It could be something that we had no business participating
in or it could be something that we just let consume us to the point of
drowning.
“Turn around, don’t drown.” But God I made this commitment. I have
to see it through. But God, my friends will feel let down if I do not
participate in what they are doing. But, God… “Turn around, don’t drown.”
Sometimes we get so
involved with what we are doing, we do not even realize that we are drowning.
Yes, we may feel stressed, tired, in over our heads and still not understand
that we need to stop, turn around and listen to Him.
What if, instead of
overeating, I could just eat to fuel my body and stop? What if, instead of
thinking that I can afford something because I have a credit card, I just put
the item down and decided to wait until I had real cash money to purchase it?
What if, instead of
watching a movie or TV show
that I have no business watching, I picked up my Bible and read it?
If I answer these “what
if” questions honestly, I might realize that obedience can keep me from “drowning”
in unwanted pounds, in debt, or in guilt. Listening to His voice is the best
option. He knows the best path for my life much better than I do. He sees the
whole picture. He knows how deep I will find myself if I keep going.
“Turn around, don’t drown,” good advice, both literally and spiritually.
Thank you, God, for speaking to
me. Help me to listen.
