God delights in concealing things;
scientists delight in discovering things.
The seven dwarfs happily stroll along the forest trail on
their way to work in Disney’s Snow White
and the Seven Dwarfs. They
energetically descend into the cold, dark mine. A mine is an unpleasant working environment,
and digging in rock with pickaxes is hard work. So why are they so excited to go to work?
In the mine, the men happily hack away at the brown
rock. Lanterns illuminate the
underground cavity, revealing sparkling dots dancing along every surface. A closer look reveals the source of the shine
- breathtaking diamonds and gems of every color! Aha!
That’s what motivated them to go to work. With skill and determination, the dwarfs free
the gemstones from their rocky prisons.
I love hiding colorful eggs at Easter. I search for just the right hiding
spots. Watching the children’s faces
light up as they discover their prizes gladdens my heart. One year I hid glow-in-the-dark eggs which my
children searched for in the dark. It
seems the harder the eggs are to find, the more the satisfaction of the
recipient.
Proverbs 25:2 tells us that God delights in hiding things for
us to find. Delights! He has thoughtfully deposited exquisite
jewels in His Word for us to discover. I
think of it as a divine Easter egg hunt. We get the privilege of searching for riches much more valuable than
diamonds! Imagine our heavenly Father
beaming as we discover one of His well-hidden jewels!
At the end of the day, the dwarfs stuff the rewards of their
labor into large bags before heading back home. The workday has been productive. They leave much richer than when they
left.
The same is true when I spend time in God’s Word. Sometimes it is challenging to carve out time
in my hectic days, but the results are always worth the time and effort. And the riches I discover surpass anything I
could have imagined!
Father, thank You for the wealth of
gems in Your Word.
