Do You Trust Me?

Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
Mark 9:23 NKJV

“Do you trust me?” Aladdin asks Jasmine as he stretches his hand toward her. The scene unfolds on a large balcony overlooking the city of Agrabah in the Disney movie Aladdin.  Jasmine is standing securely on the balcony, protected by the surrounding railing. Aladdin is standing on a magic carpet, hovering in mid-air.

Jasmine’s face portrays her quandary. Should she stay in the safety of what she has always known, or should she take a leap into the unknown? After contemplating, she thrusts her hand in Aladdin’s and leaps next to him upon the floating carpet. Unsure what awaits, Jasmine entrusts herself to Aladdin.

Like Jasmine, Peter had a decision to make. The Lord told him to come to Him upon raging waters.  Peter could have remained in the safety of the boat.  Instead, he opted to step out into the unknown with Jesus.

Peter, an experienced fisherman, was no stranger to the sea.  He knew walking on water wasn’t logical. He had never been able to walk on water before. But he knew Jesus. And Peter trusted Him. Even though he faltered, Peter learned valuable lessons. He found he could indeed walk on water. He discovered that his faith still had growing room. And, most importantly, he received a deeper revelation of Jesus.

I am comforted that the Bible records not only the successes of His people but also the failures. I find myself messing up over and over. Jesus doesn’t expect me to be perfect; He just wants me to trust Him.

If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes (Mark 9:23). Not just a few things but all things!

Jasmine experienced adventures she never dreamed possible once she put her trust in Aladdin. We have amazing adventures awaiting us as we trust Jesus.

Jesus lovingly extends His hand toward us asking, “Do you trust Me?”

Jesus, help me to trust You in every area of my life.

Terri
