Tie [God’s commandments] as symbols
on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
“What’s happened to you?” Nala asks Simba in Disney’s The
Lion King.
Nala and Simba were close friends growing up as lion cubs at
Pride Rock. After Simba’s father, the
king, died in an accident, Simba ran away in fear. For some time, Simba had been living a life
of leisure, free of responsibilities, listening to false wisdom and feasting on
insects.
Simba was content until Nala showed up. She gazed quizzingly at the lion she once
knew. Why was the king’s son living a life far from his father’s
kingdom? Why was a carnivorous lion
eating bugs? Why wouldn’t he take his rightful place as king?
Simba darts into the grasslands to get his head
together. Looking up, he sees the night
clouds swirl into a likeness of his father. His father’s voice rings in Simba’s ears. “You have forgotten who you are. Remember who you are. Remember...remember…”
I have always had difficulty remembering things - names,
dates, appointments, assignments, etc. So I write things down on my mirror, on my phone, on notecards, and even
on my hand. Deuteronomy 6:8-9 must have
been written for forgetful people like me!
God instructs us to put His word in places we will see it so we won’t
forget.
Simba ultimately accepts his calling and returns to rule
Pride Rock. We also have been called to greatness in Jesus. As we remember who our Creator says we are,
we can step into the destiny He has planned for us.
Remember...Christ died
for us (Romans 5:8).
Remember...we are God’s
children (Romans 5:16).
Remember...you are a
chosen people (1 Peter 2:9).
Remember...everyone
born of God overcomes the world (1 John 5:4).
Remember...I will not
leave you as orphans (John 14:18).
Remember...I am coming
soon (Revelation 22:20).
Father, help me remember who You
created me to be.
Terri
