Imagine That

May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace in believing, that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promises.
Romans 15:13 AMP

One morning as I was reflecting on the day ahead, my imagination took me away . . . I pictured a floating bottle. I let the video play out in my mind . . . I could see myself placing all my cares in it – corking it – and throwing it as far as I could out into the water. I watched it float out of sight.

It was comforting to watch that scene unfold in my mind, for that’s where all the confusion takes place . . . in my mind. I just let the bottle float away!

God has given us the gift of a creative mind. It sees possibilities and they, in turn, create faith. If we didn’t have the ability, for instance, to imagine ourselves differently, there would be no hope in believing we could change!

When a new Christian reads John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life,
he finds out that he, himself, is in that verse – and believes that God loves him and sent His Son, Jesus, to die just for him! In his imagination he can see himself washed clean, standing before the wonderful God who loves him.

We can place ourselves into word pictures. For instance, Psalm 1 describes the believer who delights in God’s words and meditates on them continually. That person is like a tree planted by water, bringing forth fruit, prospering in all they do!

When we read the words of this Psalm, a picture forms in our mind, and it resonates in our spirit. We take the promise of what God is offering to us and say - “Yes, Lord, this is who I want to be!”

A song written a few years ago, “I Can Only Imagine,” is an amazing inspiration! The        writer imagines the wonderful moment when in Heaven we see Jesus for the first time.

Surrounded by your Glory what will my heart feel.
Will I dance for You, Jesus, or in awe of You be still.
Will I stand in your Presence, or to my knees will I fall.
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all.
                    I can only imagine!
                    I can only imagine!

Father, thank you for the gift of imagination that sparks my faith and confidence in You!

Martha
