On Fleek

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:1-2

If you are not really current in pop culture (or have a teenage girl nearby), you might not even realize that "fleek" is a word. It's slang, but it means, perfect, flawlessly styled, and looking great. Teenage girls commonly describe perfectly styled eyebrows as "on fleek."

We all have ideas of what a “perfect” day might be. We’ve even thought, life would be perfect if . . . Who wouldn’t want the perfect life? Problem is that life cannot be “perfect” on planet Earth. BUT we can pursue a perfect God, and His perfect will.

Romans 12:1-2 gives us some direction. Let’s break it down.

What does it look like to present yourself as a living sacrifice to Him? I think it’s an attitude of the heart. When we are fully resigned and depending on Him, he knows it. And then he can use us. It doesn't say that you will know God's will and then can decide whether or not you want to offer yourself to Him.

We also can't look and act like everybody else. We are set apart for Him. We choose to think of our Father first in the things we do. When we are set apart for Him, we naturally distinguish ourselves from the world. So much of this world's thinking can cloud our reasoning as to the will of God.

How do we be transformed by the renewing of our minds? A big change happens within us when we spend time in fellowship with God and His people. We grow closer to His likeness when we saturate our lives and thoughts with the Word of God.

God’s will is definitely “on fleek.” Let’s run after Him.

Lord, help us to be living sacrifices as we are set apart for You. Grow us, move us, change us, renew us.

Julie
