Sneaking A Peek

To the Lord I cry aloud, and He answers me from His holy hill.
Psalm 3:4

In anger, fear, sadness, revenge, joy, happiness, jealousy, and even inappropriate requests David prayed to God.

Let’s sneak a peek at his prayer journal.

David had the emotions we all have had at one time or another. But, look at the candid, honest prayers he spoke to God. The God he knew could and would listen to all of his prayers, the most joyous to the rawest ones.

In joy he prayed, “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music” (Psalm 98:4).

In frustration with God he prayed, Awake, O Lord! Why do You sleep? Rouse Yourself! Do not reject us forever. Why do You hide Your face and forget our misery and oppression?” (Psalm 44:23-24).

In jealousy he prayed, “For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong. They are free from the burdens common to man: they are not plagued by human ills” (Psalm 73:3-5).

In revenge, to God he prayed, “Why do You hold back Your hand, Your right hand? Take it from the folds of Your garment and destroy them!” (Psalm 74:11).

In fear, he prayed, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?” (Psalm 22:1).

Did God ignore, close His ears, turn His back, or forsake David because he dared pray these open, unfiltered, raw, honest prayers? Absolutely not! God loved him even more and called him a man after His own heart.

David’s prayer journal gives us confidence to pray to God in ALL circumstances.

Let us pray.
