God Lessons in the Waves … He stills the raging seas

O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you. You rule over the raging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.
Psalm 89:8-9

As the waves lapped on shore outside my open bedroom window that evening, I smiled. I had been away far too long from the cottage, far too long from the most soothing sound on earth. I love the whisper of the aspens and the babbling of a rushing mountain brook; but it seems as if God created the sweet slapping sound of the sea to wrap snuggly around me, as downy and soft as my favorite comforter. Even if the winds should roar, I feel safe and secure. Hush, hush my child.

Thank You, Lord.

You see, sometimes the raging sea of this world sweeps over me, bringing its troubles my way. But I know I can count on Jesus to still my heart when those pesky waves mount up. My trip to the beach house reminded me of God’s faithfulness.
  • Are you in need of peace? “If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea (Isaiah 48:18).
  • In need of hope? All your waves and breakers have swept over me. By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me—11.Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God (Psalm 42:7-8,11).
  • In need of joy? You stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves…where morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy (Psalm 65:7-8).
  • In need of calm? He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven (Psalm 107:29-30).
  • In need of comfort? “I, even I, am he who comforts you. 15.I am the LORD your God, who churns up the sea so that its waves roar (Isaiah 51:12,15).
  • In need of salvation? “Salvation comes from the LORD. And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land (Jonah 2:9-10).

Listen, listen, as the waves of the world are stilled. Let the words of the Lord wrap themselves snuggly around you. Not only is He able; He is willing to meet your every need.
