My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber.
Psalm 121:2-3
One of my special needs students was having a bad day so I tried to console him with a hug and a quiet song. In the midst of my attempt another student tapped me on the shoulder.
“No, no, no,” he said, “let me twinkle.”
“Let me twinkle?” I could not even guess what that meant, but I told him to go ahead anyway. Sure enough he started singing his own rendition of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star very quietly and sweetly. I could not help but giggle a wee bit only on the inside though because of his sincerity.
Sometimes I have to admit I have bad days. Just like my classroom incident, I try to fix things on my own. I try to make things better using my own methods. That’s when God taps me on the shoulder. He reminds me that I can turn anything over to Him and He can handle it.
He reassures me that I need to give Him my worry and fear about whatever it is and trust that He can deal with it much better than I can.
All I have to do is listen to Him, obey His voice, and let Him take over. I just need to let Him – “twinkle.”
God, you can handle stresses much better than I can. I know that I can trust you to deal with whatever happens in my life.
