A Novel Idea: The Author

…fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith…
Hebrews 12:2

Every book has an author. The author decides the tone, the theme, the characters, the challenges, and the ending of a story. He or she chooses the genre to write. Will it be a mystery? A biography? A love story? Much thought and planning goes into the birthing of a book.
The Bible has been called the greatest story ever told. Many people throughout the ages penned portions of the Bible. However, the true author is God. All Scripture is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16). Men were divinely inspired by God to write down His beautiful story.

God’s sweeping epic spans the time before the creation of the world to future events that will occur after the earth wear(s) out like a garment (Isaiah 51:6). Redeeming love is the theme of His book. In this love story, God communicates His love and desire for a relationship with each person He created.

God knew we would need a savior because of our sin problem. Sinful people cannot live in the presence of a sinless God. But the Author had a marvelous plan!

He knew from the beginning He would send His one and only son to die in our place so that we may live. Jesus is the Lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8). All we must do to have a relationship with God is to ask His forgiveness for sinning against Him and accept the free gift of everlasting life through the blood of His son, Jesus.

Do you sometimes feel unimportant or overlooked? God cares deeply about each one of us. All my days (and yours!) were written in Your (God’s) book and planned before a single one of them began (Psalm 139:16 HCSB). How is that for planning ahead? God wrote a whole book of your life and planned a way for you to live it out before you were born!

Father, thank you for writing a personal story for each one of us.

Terri
